The story of Selah
~ Director, teacher and founder ~
Sophie Muller, known for her innovative choreography and dedication to her students’ growth. With over two decades of dance experience, including examinations and training in The Cecchetti Method, Vaganova and Sunshine Christian Dance Syllabus, she has trained dancers of all ages and skill levels, blending classical techniques with contemporary styles to create dynamic performances. Muller’s passion for dance shines through in her teaching, inspiring her students to explore their creativity and express themselves through movement. Striving to cultivate a supportive and nurturing environment where dancers can flourish both artistically and personally while giving all glory to God our creator.
"When we move from a place of love, we can express something that needs to be seen or communicated, expressing words that have been too hard to say while creating an atmosphere where people can interoperate this silent language. Bringing breakthrough, freedom and life to the dancer and those watching."
At Selah Movement School of Dance we are dedicated to creating a nurturing and healthy dance school that involves fostering a supportive environment where students feel valued and encouraged to explore their passion for dance while prioritizing their physical and emotional well-being. We believe this can be achieved through:
- Qualified and caring teachers who prioritise positive reinforcement and individualised attention.
- A focus on proper technique and safe dance practices to prevent injuries.
- Open communication channels between teachers, students, and parents to address any concerns or questions.
- Providing opportunities for students to express themselves creatively and develop confidence.
- Encouraging a sense of community and teamwork among students in and out of the studio.
- Incorporating elements of mindfulness and self-care into the curriculum to promote mental and emotional health.
- Creating inclusive policies and practices that welcome students of all backgrounds and abilities.
- Offering resources and support for students who may be experiencing stress or burnout. This can be discussed further with the principal.
- Celebrating progress and achievements, both big and small, to foster a positive and motivating atmosphere.
